. . . where poem & image meet . . .

Dear Friends:+

Here's what's new at my quartet of websites
for the Autumn Hunter's Moon:

THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL FEATURE is a new set of five long-line sonnets,
TREE OF AWAKENING, AMSTERDAM BY NIGHT, HYMN,
HIDEGARD'S GARDEN, and BUNKERS ON THE BEACH.
They all have their own photopages w/ new recordings.
There'll be a little 9" x 7" photobook bringing this entire stream
of pieces together, appearing this fall as NEW SONNETS—
Songs of Praise & Rage from a disappearing cultural landscape
This is the new form that hit me while reading a dialogue
between the Igor Strainsky and Robert Craft, as suddenly
Stravinsky, who grew up speaking German with his nanny,
mentioned that he thought some of Rilke's SONNETS TO ORPHEUS
where so long they seemed like two sonnets combined. That
thought stuck with me. Don't look for rhyme, but movements
based on a musical weave of similarity and difference, and
sustained phrases of fluxtuating density. The themes are
all European. And the images, one after the other, are surreal,
kaleidoscopic, like you found a big box of colored slides in an attic
and projected them at different angels at random. These sonnets are
different for me in one special regard: there are a lot of NAMES,
names of threatened greatness I'm fighting for. I
think it's worth it. The one I'm quite sure that no one will
have the slightest idea why I'm doing it at first is AMSTERDAM
BY NIGHT, with the city which is MY city, where I feel most
at home, now peopled with every great American Transcendentalist
except Charles Ives.

"There goes Dickinson on her pink bike with elephant wings!
Chasing Wilders and the last Puritans out of town."

[24 collected w/ 42 color photos]

FOR CONTRASTING STREAMS, there's a set of five poems from
the ON THE WAYSIDE and, yes, with a not-very-good
recording of a NEON GRAFFITI rant, the one called "d & d."
or "Decontamination and Decommissioning," DOE-speak for
we-have-not-idea-what-the-hell-we're-doing when it
comes to the HANFORD REACH, the largest site
of highly radioactive nuclear waste on planet Earth,
just 220 km Northwest from where I write. If you think
the situation is under control at Hanford, it most certainly
is not. For background, here are three recent tweets:
