(Muted) Snake River Contrasts IV . . . from Brownlee Reservoir, Northeast Oregon / Idaho . . . [ click photo for next . . . ]
On the road in the Northwest of America.
Join me in my campaign to bring the conservation of Nature
and the best of classical music together. The sonosphere—the
sea of sounds which surrounds us—deserves as much attention and
care as our water and air!
3 poems by Gerrit Achterberg, translated
from the Dutch . . .
Words going backwards
are on their way to you:
so that you may hear
your ears are gone.
Sentences inside out
because your knowing is gone.
Song to surround you
stone against stone.
Against the sounding board of the night
your words still move.
Everything that you have said
remains alive in the sound of chords
that I encounter only in darkness
when the silences hear
that have been put up between us.
No death manifests in the number
that connected the two of us.
Nothing is in the apparatus
other than the hissing of eternity.
Perhaps that the opening of an eye
will repeat itself, a trembling
of silk, that has not yet passed away,
and that still wishes to be audible,
o sign, that you have survived,
to have found a place in the ring
figures of my assurance.

I might just mention here, following the ethical principle,
First, do no harm, I never use cars or snowmachines. I
do everything on foot, bike or ski. I think this in a
deep and direct way affects my work, and how I see
the world. So all the photos above were approached
on foot, including all the in between spaces, sometimes
involving journeys of weeks or months.
I would not want to work any other way.
