Each day, the Earth turns
to greet the Sun.

We are all turning…

The Muslim turns.
The Christian turns.

Even I turn, with my
religion without a name.

THE TIME-LAPSE VISION OF ANGELS

God’s shutter releases, every century, or two.
First, we see pristine forests, mountains, and rivers.
Then, we see a picture of children with fiddles and guitars,
and fat cattle and ranches with fences of neat, shiny, wire.
Next, we see a picture with old broken down trucks
and down fences, with tumble weed and black garbage bags
piling up around the open doors of abandoned houses.
Then, we see again pristine forests, mountains, and rivers.
The shutter releases, every century, or two.

THE WATER IN US . . .

How the water in us wishes to lie flat in deep repose at night,
like the water of a clear mountain lake high in a hidden valley.

And how the water in us wishes to hold and reflect, like a lake’s quiet
surface, all the stars and planets and galaxies of the cloudless night sky.

The water in us: Here. Now. Timeless. The water in us: but a mere frac-
tion of the whole, yet resonant with a Universe evidently without begin-
ning, and without end.
