View a slideshow with 37 images I made at NKWUSM—"one fire, one family"
or in English, the Salish Language Revitalization InstituteBelow is a set of four video pieces which Chaney Bell at NKWUSM has
produced and posted to YouTube as part of the www.salishworld.com project.
First, two Elders, Pat Pierre & Stephan Smallsalmon, speak about
what the schook, NKWUSM, means to them. [in both English, and Salish]
And third, there's little piece so we can learn to speak a bit of Salish
along with the kids at the school.
And lastly, there's a very beautifully produced recent introduction
to the school—as community as project as one fire as one family—
with brief, but moving, interviews of both young and old.The kids of NKWUSM sing a visitor's welcome song, mixed with
Tachini Pete telling his story & Steve Smallsalmon singing and working
with his wonderful group of kids. download mp3 [14.6 Mb]

NKWUSM: 2004 interview in Engllish / in Salish
"The wisdom in the Language,
The strength of the language,
The power that's in the language,
causes us to want
to go on and on and on.
Because we have a common knowledge
of what's out there in the world,
who we are,
and how we interact with it."
