Enchanter's Nightshade, fruit detail . . . (Circaea lutetiana) Native to North America.
Not a member of the Nightshade family, but an Evening Primrose. Named
after Circe, the fair-haired goddess of Aeaea in Book XIII of Homer's
Odyssey. She offers a band of Odysseus' men food and drink, added
to which is a magic herb. A touch of her wand then turns the men
into pigs. Powerful mix, indeed!
