Coni & Dave on the Empire Grade, the road from Eagle Creek to Sparta . . .
Every time I set up my tent, I remember and bless them. They happen to find my tent-pole
bag in the middle of the gravel road. They stopped, picked it up, and then drove ahead
to find me on my bike and trailer struggling up the grade. "Did I recognized these,"
Coni asked. Good god, I would have been at the top of the pass before I would
have realized that the pole bag had somehow fallen off the outside of my trailer. I was
packing out fron Eagle Cap, already tired and out of food. It would have taken another
day, to bike back down, and maybe not even find the poles!
