glissando

Glissando, the Italian word for sliding (on a violin string), used
throughout the Alps for making one's way down a steep snow
slope by 'skiing' on the soles of one's boots.

For mountaineering experts, notice that the alpinist pictured above
isn't using an ice axe, but someting more akin to a heavy crowbar.
That's the staff of honor used by oldtimers when they're out
scouring the crystaline cliffs, looking for hidden caves filled
with clear quartz.
