P/P Photoweek: Indifference . . . (VII.11.2005)

indifference

Indifference, Snapping Turtle on the move . . .
(Chelydra serpentina) Native to North America.
Looking into the eyes of this reptile, one sees it seems to me two hundred million years
of evolutionary steadfastness. Not fancy, but it works. That is, until lately.
This species , popular for turtle soup, we are officialy advised to refrain from
eating in the area where this photo was made because of mercury contamination!
