Sunflower. Bracts. Storm. . . .Summer in North America.

The flowering head of the Sunflower, as everyone knows,
follows the Sun. Thus the botanical generic name, Helianthus;
and thus the common names like honor this characteristic,
like the Italian, Girasole = turning + sun.

Here, we see the sunflower from behind., facing not the Sun
but the winds of an oncoming storm. Nowadays, we quickly take refuge from the dark side of weather, if we venture out at all, so we no longer give much attention to the robust strength of many plants.

Notice the beautiful form of the bracts, or the modified leaves
just behind the bright yellow of the more familiar flower.
