Old-fashioned Lilac (Syringa vulgaris)
Native to Europe and Asia. Frequently escaped into the wild.
A signature species planted on old farmsteads. Who would not enjoy its unique
fragrance on a spring evening
after a long day preparing the corn and soybean fields? Flower purple before
opening, then becoming
pale lavender.
