Ironweed, color of Fall (Vernonia gigantea ). Striking geometry of the bare
seed capitulum. Taken together with the dried sepals, it makes a wonderful kind
of autumn flower. So much of Nature in Fall speaks to us in soft, muted tones.
(One wonders if it is any less beautiful if no one cares to listen)  But look at
the 5-part pentameter of the inner seedbed. I think Bucky Fuller, designer of the
Geodesic Dome, would have loved this flower. The thought of this makes
me smile as I walk on down the noisy, dirty road, alonside of which this
photograph was made...
