NEW MUSIC FOR A NEW YEAR!

  *TIMELINE*

A new addition to THE MAGIC BOXfor vibes & marimba:
"Timeline"
two modes of temporal movement,
linear and curved, or slow and fast, are woven together
in a complex composite.

The three main voices—the vibraphone music, the marimba music,
as well as
the slow music of 80 regular pulses or steps for both
vibes and marimba—may be played in conjunction
with the duo independently as separate solo pieces.

Featured photograph/poems from "Images of the Natural Year":

*WINTER CORN*

This week, three new translations from the
DUTCH:

Say Adieu

I say adieu, the two of us must part,
But with thou I leave behind my heart:
Wherever you are, there it shall be.
Whether wise or mine,
You always the dearest shall be.

Adieu, adieu, adieu! everything must be,
Adieu, adieu! as it must be.
Wounded I am, to thou say I,
My heart suffers,
Though thou art my only curative.

If I to you could only prove
That I should do with all my ability,
And wiith thou under cover of night stay,
Without covenant,
Without burden.

Eternally thine I remain,
Steadfast without parting.

HUMAN GENOME PROJECT

Perhaps it is true:

Changing but one note
in a Beethoven symphony
might destroy the whole,

but,

studying the same
note in isolation
will not show us
a single—

   thing.
