A hoodoo is a column or pinnacle of water-worn
or shaped rock, often topped with a flatter piece
of harder rock.
The word 'hoodoo' is evidently an alteration of Voodoo.
This is because the shapes bear a striking resemblance to
bizarre human forms, frequently topped by "hats" of different
shapes and sizes . . .
